If you:

A.) live in Florida

B.) are on Facebook

you probably saw our seaglass video in your news feed yesterday or today! Exciting stuff!

About a month ago, a news team from NowThis! in New York City called our gallery's owner Aimee and asked to do a video about her seaglass collecting and jewelry-making after finding her Facebook page "Tidal Treasures Natural Seaglass Jewelry." They flew down in late January on an unseasonably cold day in North Florida and spent about 5 hours with Aimee, both at a local beach and in High Tide Gallery to produce the 2-minute video for a series called "100% Floridian" that showcases unique Floridians.

Aimee's first seaglass find was at about age 10 when she accompanied her uncle on their own archaeological scavange among oyster beds and mud near the Oldest City (St. Augustine). She found a beautiful frosty shard of purple seaglass and thought it was the most amazing jewel. Fast forward 26 years to Aimee's return to St. Augustine and the opening of High Tide Gallery, finding "Mermaids Tears" of all colors during daily beach walks led to the idea of wearing these unique pieces of history and sharing their stories.

There are many ways to decipher a sea glass shard's story - thickness, color, markings, writing, area found, area originally produced (as a bottle, vase, window, marble, lightbulb, bottlestopper, etc)...antique bottle websites can be helpful with this sleuthwork. More on this in a future blog!

Thanks for visiting our new webstore and blog! Hope to see you soon!
